Less than Six hours to the New Year!!
All aboard… seat belt buckled, goals and resolutions set…
Every year, most people make resolutions, me included.
Going through my room recently, I found my goal card; glancing through it I realized that I didn’t fulfill a quarter of my goals for the year. The one I made for 2014 included exercising daily to keep fit (which didn’t last for a week), studying daily (okay I did that for a month).
I found out that I’m not the only one with the problem; and I realized that the reason we fail with our goals is because we do it with will power. Alright, we need determination to fulfill our goals but nothing is going to go through if God isn’t in the forefront.
“Not by might, nor power but by my Spirit.” Says the Lord Almighty. Zechariah 4:6
We make goals like: I’ll not drink, I’ll not smoke, I’ll exercise daily, I’ll eat healthy, I’ll be more loving, caring and friendly; but then, somewhere in the middle of the year, we slip up. We try so hard to keep up with the goals, but it just doesn’t seem to go through, the temptation to fall back is so huge.
Goals are important, they keep us focused on where we ought to be, but we need to remember to:
Commit your ways to the Lord, trust in him and he will act. Psalm 37: 5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3: 5-6
Another version says He’ll make your path straight.
That means where we ought to be, we’ll get there without struggle and at the right time.
As the New Year begins, remember to commit your ways to God each and every morning!
